One Family Yoga, Pilates & Fitness delivers the work of Joseph Pilates in a modern way meeting the needs of a group fitness pilates class of today. Our unique approach developed through decades of teaching experience teaches the repertoire, movement principles and application of each exercise to the individual within a group.

Matwork Pilates is a series of exercises on the mat, using your own body resistance and strength and is the foundation of the pilates training courses. 

The One Family Foundational Level 1 Matwork Course is aimed at those wishing to start a career to become a Pilates Professional or those wanting to add to their yoga or fitness qualifications. In this course you will learn to confidently instruct Matwork Pilates classes, postural and teaching cues, modifications, and programming to create a class of your own.

In the Matwork Level 1 Pilates Instructor Course

You will learn to confidently instruct Mat Pilates classes, postural and teaching cues, modifications, and programming to create a class of your own. Learn:

  • The history, fundamentals and Principles of Pilates, neutral position & thoracic breathing.

  • Core concepts and how to apply the Pilates principles and the connection between the breath and core stability in all exercises.

  • Anatomy & physiology, in particular, in-depth knowledge relevant to Pilates.

  • How to recognise incorrect posture and help correct them.

  • Advanced teaching skills and class management.

  • Health, safety and welfare to keep you and your clients safe.

  • How to analyse each exercise so that you can modify/progress and safely teach all abilities.

  • A complete breakdown of over 90 exercises.

  • How to create interesting and balanced sequences.

  • Effective communication, verbal cues and imagery for performance enhancement and client motivation.

Pre-Requisites

Whether you have chosen to undergo your pilates training to enhance your skills as a Group fitness instructor, to embark on a new career or just to dive deeper into the Pilates Method, start your pilates journey with us.

To ensure all Matwork/Reformer Pilates Course students have the same level of knowledge, you must have completed one of the following qualifications before the course start date:

  • One Family Yoga Foundational Anatomy Course;
  • Certificate III or IV in Fitness; and/or
  • Certificate, Diploma or Degree that covers Anatomy, specifically covering the topics of bones, joints and muscles.

Embodying Pilates is also a benefit and will not only give you an appreciation of the pilates method but will also help you teach it to your clients from a place of knowing, but not a requirement.

Level 1 Matwork Pilates Certified Participants

having completed the OFYF Training Curriculum are competent in:

  • Theory and practice of postural analysis

  • The Pilates Method of Exercise – covering the mechanics, breath and essence of exercises plus modifications for specific body types, postural issues and conditions

  • Classic Pilates exercises plus all progressions and regressions

  • Effective use of the Matwork exercises/Reformer apparatus to enhance stability, strength, conditioning, flexibility, joint stability, balance and coordination

  • Effective communication and observational skills Verbal cueing, imagery and tactile cueing for performance enhancement and client motivation

  • Sequencing and grouping of exercises – exercise layering to create effective class design to suit everyBODY

Terms & Conditions of Accreditation

Assessment

  • On-Course Theory Exam

    The written exam consists of multiple choice and written answer questions. The exam is completed on day 3 of the face to face program and will take you approximately 1 hour to complete. Results for the theory exam will be given at the end of the course.

  • Practical Exam

    You will be required to co-create a class plan with your course group and demonstrate an exercise to both an individual and your course group on the final day.

  • Post Course

    Your 15 observation and 15 practical class logs are to be emailed to [email protected]. Your Pilates Certificate will be issued once the video has been assessed, within a 1 month period.

  • Attendance Policy

    A minimum of 95% attendance is required for certificate to be awarded, Students who miss more than 95% of the contact hours may request private tuition at their own cost to make up any missed sessions (costs are $85hour).

  • Date of Certification

    Upon successful completion of the exam and post course requirements (Matwork Pilates), students are considered certified Fitness Pilates Instructors from the date of a competent video submission (Matwork Pilates) or final day (Reformer Pilates).

  • Eligibility

    Students must be at least 18 years of age to participate in a OFYF Pilates course.

  • Certification Appeals Process

    Students who decide to appeal their certification results may do so in emailing, [email protected] 30 days of their course completion. All appeals will be attended to within 30 days.

  • Cancellation Policy

    For cancellations more than 6 weeks prior course commencement, all fees will be refunded less the $100 non-refundable deposit; within 4 weeks of commencement date, a 50% cancellation fee applies; within 2 weeks of commencement date, no refund will be given. In case of a Pandemic or a positive PCR/RAT COVID test no refund will be given but course is transferable to another person or course date.
